The main objective of the FDCI, which has established itself as the apex body in the field of fashion design in India, is the development and growth of the fashion industry. In order to attain this, the FDCI will:
Provide an effective forum to represent the interests of its members for their professional advancement and growth.
Represent its members before any government related bodies and International organizations, as may be deemed necessary.
Promote fashion designs, within India and abroad, through strategically planning and executing promotion campaigns. The forum hopes to cultivate and consolidate a market base for products designed by Indian Fashion Designers.
To facilitate international exchange and sharing of information and expertise. Create mutually beneficial linkages with similar councils across the globe. To create a comprehensive database of the member fashion designers.
To organize and conduct entrepreneurial development programmes, quality awareness programmes and so on. The council, bearing in mind the interests of the fashion industry will decide this.
To develop a system of norms for member fashion designers.
Other than the main aims and objectives as contoured above, the FDCI will also outline ancillary and supporting objectives.
Some of these are to include:
- Management of grants, endowments, trusts and so on.
- Identify and maintain control over regional chapters.
- To negotiate contracts on behalf of the society.
- Manage real estate issues for the council.
- Award fellowships, scholarships, etc. towards recognition of excellence.
