The world defines Creativity as the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, or the like, and create new ideas, forms, or interpretations. The world also defines creativity to be an abstract art which can only be studied by one who has an insatiable urge to be different from the thoughts of the time to which he belongs. As a person Debarun believes every single word of the stated above. From early childhood of all the mediums to be creative fashion always excited him the most. The journey started early, as a child experimenting with colors and designs he continued his tryst with fashion all the way to a formal fashion education from the highly esteemed London College of fashion.
After completing his education in London, Debarun worked in diverse locations across India, gaining experience and a practical insight. One of his major associations during this time was with the renowned fashion house Pitambari’s export operations. Pitambari retails to all over the country and chose Debarun to work with them, in taking their business abroad both creatively and commercially. During this journey he worked on different and novel patterns of embroidery and travelled the world. Through these and many such experiences Debaruns’ belief and conviction in his abilities increased over the years.
In 2006 the brand ‘Debarun’ was launched. The brand urged to bring out not only novelty and non conformism but also an extension of the designer. He wanted to reinstate the belief that ‘to create fashion is not only to change the exterior appearance but to bring about a change in the way of life prevalent during a particular time’.
The vision is to establish ‘Debarun’ as an international brand which assures buyers of innovation, class and quality.
Since the launch, the brand has participated and exhibited in many Fashion weeks throughout India. Debaruns’ last collection ‘Fathom’ has proved to be very popular, catching eyes of celebrities and the public, the collection has also been published in the DNA ME magazine. The brand currently retails out of stores such as FUEL.
Debaruns’ forte is hand embroidery and he also has an embroidery house in Kolkata working with International Fashion and embroidery houses.
For Debarun Mukherjee fashion is not just an art form or a means of commerce but a way of life.
