Pallavi Jaikishan needs no introduction. With a career that spans nearly three decades, Pallavi has established herself as a doyen in the fashion industry of India.
From starting out in the early 1970's with Paraphernalia, her signature lifestyle store, which featured her exclusive collections and designs, Pallavi moved on to exports of exquisite beaded garments. Renowned fashion and lifestyle stores across USA like Saks 5th Avenue, Lord and Taylor and Bergdoff Goodman stocked her exports. Soon after, she began to retail at the store Inter Plaza as well. In addition to all these ventures, Pallavi maintained her regular clientele, for whom she designed and supplied out of her own home.
Pallavi is one of the first and few designers in India, who realised the need for a prêt line in addition to the made-to-order couture line. Pallavi has always worked with pure fabrics. "Fabrics that breathe and that can be comfortably worn in the Indian climate," are what she works with. Pure silks, chiffons and georgettes find their way in her collections. Another one of her favourites is khadi, whose use she has consistently advocated in her collections over the years.
Pallavi Jaikishan's timeless couture garments comprising sarees, lehengas, ornate kurtas are treasured masterpieces passed down from one generation to the next. Her creations are classic yet versatile with an avante garde modern touch given to even the most traditional outfit while retaining its richness of embroidery, detailingand texture.
Pallavi would like each piece designed by her to have a timeless essence to it. "It should be a timeless classic that no amount of changes in fashion trends can overrule. In fact, it could even be passed on as family heirloom."
Pallavi's work is a testimony of the fact that each garment is designed and handcrafted exclusively by her. Her signature style remains, to date - subtle, elegant and sophisticated.
