Designer sisters Barkha Sharma and Sonzal Patel are a highly creative duo.
Sonzal graduated from the London College of Fashion, UK. During her time there, her designs were often published in the London School's magazines, and her creations were regularly featured in the galleries as well. She assisted prominent designers in London at fashion shows. She also assisted and worked under Arjun Khanna. She is also a jazz ballet dancer
Barkha the elder sibling is a dancer and designer. She graduated with a B. Sc from Purdue University, USA and also completed a marketing program at The Wharton Business School. Eventually she opted to learn dance in Kerala, along with understanding and learning local crafts. Barkha has since worked and designed with various tribes of India, South Africa, parts of Europe, Egypt, Russia etc. She is also a Kalaripaiyatt" artist from CVN Kalari.
"Barkha 'n' Sonzal", is synonymous with aesthetic appeal, class and regality in appearance and sentiment.
Their inspiration comes from dance, music, spirituality, handicrafts, Nature, the land of Kashmir, world cinema, theatre, sculptures and poetry, through the depths of their experiences with the same.
Their specialization includes dori work, zardosi work as well as sharp, crisp cuts that flatter a man's body, making him appear handsome and imperial. They also specialize in creating a mixture of different Indian weaves as well as Italian fabrics, which are fused together.
Barkha 'n' Sonzal are the only designers to specially design for one of India's national songs "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara" with world famous santoor maestros Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Rahul Sharma, watched by millions worldwide.
They are also the first designers to design for PETA India. They designed a sherwani made of string beans, purple cabbage and green peas. The photo was talked as one of the most creative in Asia
Rhydhun handicrafts created by them was also initiated with a program which they got selected for with the United Nations. They have also designed handicrafts in collaboration with craftsmen in Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Gujarat, Kashmir and Rajasthan.
The sisters also designed for the music video "Meeting by the Nile", which was shot in front of the Egyptian pyramids. Along with other albums featuring legends such as Kenny G.
Their clientele includes world famous celebrities from different facets of life. With clients ranging from Bollywood, Beverly Hills in California, prominent figures in the UK and Indian industrialists families. Their outfits have been worn and appreciated by esteemed figures in prestigious concerts and events attended by the likes of the Queen of England, Prime Minister of Hungary, Theatre de la Ville in Paris, Commonwealth games, etc.
Barkha 'n' Sonzal firmly believe that they can use their creativity to give. Having recently started their own NGO called "Dancing Divine", they have in the past also worked with NGO's like Aseema, India and "Clean the Ganga" project, Dilkush special school, Rickshaw Challenge, etc.
