"The FDCI website is explored for staff recruitment by designers. So, you may wait patiently to be contacted. Regarding your desire to be a freelancer in future, do be clear that there is no one to apply to. A freelancer is a professional whose services are retained by clients for projects or assignments on mutually agreed terms. A freelancer requires to market his/her services to a potential clientele which may comprise stores, boutiques, design houses, etc. There is a lot of leg work involved. A carefully constructed portfolio - made up of illustrations, mood boards, story boards, designs, samples - has to be demonstrated to chosen clients, who must be induced to undertake a trial assignment. Another alternative is to create one's website and mount the portfolio on it. Assignments vary in nature: a) designs only; b) designs with samples from own-sourced/provided materials; c) designs, samples and orders with own-sourced/provided materials. The capital required to be invested rises from options (a) to (b) to (c). If your delivery is timely and compliant with terms, if your execution is sound and your work has saleability, it results in repeat assignments and, from then on, one is on the road to successful freelancing. This professional avenue calls for a high order of responsibility and personal discipline." |
