Life and its ‘Infinite Opportunities’


New Delhi, August 24, 2017 :  Tamana, a non-profit organisation, which is working for the holistic rehabilitation of the differently-abled, with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), will host its annual fashion show on August 26. This year, the show is titled “Infinite Opportunities” and is an endeavour to add dignity the life of special kids and further sensitise society.


The show is being held and co-hosted by the Hyatt Regency Delhi, which is Tamana’s charity partner. Mrs. Sangeeta Jaitely will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. H.E. Ms. Harinder Sidhu, Australian High Commissioner to India will be the Guest of Honour, along with other distinguished guests. Bollywood heartthrob Kriti Sanon and Miss Teen Universe 2017 Srishti Kaur, will be supporting the cause and walking the ramp for designer Amit Aggarwal and Ridhi Arora, respectively.


The differently-abled will take on the ramp, alongside leading models wearing ensembles crafted by Abraham & Thakore, Anju Modi, Gaurav Jai Gupta, Payal Jain, Amit Aggarwal, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Payal Pratap Singh, Sanjay Garg and Ridhi Arora. In keeping with the theme, of being conscious in every aspect of life, the designers will present a range created out of natural, recycled and upcycled fabrics.


For the last 10 years, Tamana has been organising the show with the theme of inclusion and the support of the fashion fraternity in their individual capacities. Since 2016, the event is being executed under the umbrella of the FDCI and is an expression of the vision of Tamana’s founder President, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Shayama Chona, who has been advocating for greater awareness of the cause of disability.


The endeavour has received appreciation and recognition from the former Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Minister of Finance, Shri Arun Jaitley, Minster of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister of State for Skill Development, Shri. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water & Sanitation Shri Narendra Singh Tomar and Minister of Science & technology and Earth Science Dr. Harsh Vardhan.

 

The evening opens with a welcome song by visually impaired singer Diwakar Sharma and this will be followed by a film directed by Gauri Chadha titled Even Me talking about this often overlooked cause. This will be followed by a welcome address by Mr. Sunil Sethi, President FDCI, facilitation of the chief guest and an award ceremony where awardees would be honoured by Mrs. Sangeeta Jaitley and HE Ms. Harinder Sidhu.


The participating mainstream schools include-----PP International School,  DPS Aligarh,  Lotus Valley International School, Noida, Lotus Valley International School, Gurgaon, J.P International School Greater Noida,  DPS Gurgaon, Mussoorie International School, DPS Indirapuram and Amity International School, Saket. There will also be a special sequence by budding designers from the Pearl Academy and constructed in the Pearl Academy Fashion Laboratory in Jail no. 6, of Tihar, by the inmates, who are currently enrolled in the fashion program.


Dr. Shayama Chona, Founder and President, Tamana, said, “This year’s show tagline is ‘Infinite Opportunities’, which means that the openings for the disabled have no barriers anymore. They rightfully deserve to walk with top models and best designers creating a blueprint of the future where no lines are drawn.”


Sunil Sethi, President FDCI said, “From difficulty in speech to anxiety and social withdrawal, the differently-abled face many challenges that we often just take for granted. The main aim of this event is to make people aware of such issues and not let the disability, overtake who they are and what they dream of being, rather help them through inclusion and understanding. We also have leading designers, who I must thank for their unflinching support, who willingly agreed to be part of a cause that has touched a million lives.”

 

 

ABOUT TAMANA

Tamana was established in 1984 by Dr. Shayama Chona, ‘Padam Bhushan’ and ‘Padam Shri’ awardee. As the name suggests, Tamana navigates the dreams and longings of the children with special needs and those of their parents to see them as rehabilitated members of our society. Its contribution in the field of disability was also recognized by the United Nations, that granted it Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council.

Tamana provides comprehensive rehabilitative services to individuals with intellectual impairments, multiple disability and autism.  The services provided include special education, therapeutic interventions, skill development and gainful employment, life skills training etc to enable them to become confident and integrated members of society.
