Six greenhorns to showcase their collection at AIFW SS 16

New Delhi, 28th Sep 2015: Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) stands by its resolve to nurture fresh talent as six budding designers are set to present their collections at Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016 in association with Maybelline NY. The five-day festival of fashion is scheduled from October 7-11 at the NSIC Grounds.

Delighted to showcase these young sparklers from the design epicentre each season, Sunil Sethi, President, Fashion Design Council of India, said, “We are happy to announce that these uninhibited style gurus will bring a fresh impetuous to the floor, making it an ideal amalgamation of contemporary and traditional designs. They are going to set the bar high by infusing oodles of energy. Elle, our magazine partner has been a frontrunner in scouting for interesting newcomers as ‘First Cut’ designers, who are looking beyond what’s trendy to create a lexicon of fashion.”

List of designers in this category are:
1.     Love Birds
2.     Ragini Ahuja
3.     Dhruv Kapur
4.     Anavila
5.     Shalini James
6.     Nimish Shah (stall designer)
Love Birds is label for a modern woman who leads an active life. They are keen on dressing the global woman of the metropolitans. Ikai by Ragini Ahuja aims to create incredibly practical clothing with relaxed fits and natural textiles that exude luxury with no hint of pretence.
Dhruv Kapur’s design employ discreet detailing to create luxurious, timeless, elegant, utilitarian, unisex clothes from fine, natural, locally sourced fabrics.  Anavila is centered around comfortable and earthy hand woven textiles that are inspired by nature.  Shalini James’s label is an exotic potpourri of everything Indian; in silhouettes that are sometimes ethnic, sometimes contemporary, and mostly a unique mix of both. Nimish Shah who is showcasing his collection at the stall has a range of sophisticated separates that are instilled with a sense of modernity to create novel expressions.
Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016 will also witness a remarkable collaboration as Elle and FDCI launch ‘First Cut’, a new initiative for emerging designers that recognises India's most promising fashion talent. The First Cut 2015 designers are:
1.     The Meraki Project by Sonali Pamnani
2.       Asa by Shreya Oza
3.       Example by Moutushi & Rituraj
4.       Lola by Suman B
5.       Vitasta by Aditi Dhar (accessory)
6.       Dvibhumi by Vyshnavi (accessory)
The Meraki Project uses organic cotton, Ikat, linen and silks that are hand woven all over India. Asa is a label that thrives on experiments with textiles, dyes and design, comprising easy and straight-forward silhouettes.
Lola offers clean and uncluttered designs which are a refreshing take on contemporary luxury. Vitasta is an accessory brand with a motto of everyday luxury that steers clear from the uniformity of mass production. Dvibhumi is an independent label on a simple quest to find a contemporary identity for jewellery rooted in Asian heritage.
