FDCI x LFW, 05-10 OCTOBER 2021

An ‘Eka’ collection by Rina Singh has always been an ethereal, feminine, fashion experience. Her latest collection at the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week had all the characteristic touches the designer is renowned for. Her inspiration was born from moments of reminiscence of faded memories and the bliss in remembrance.

Drawing from the sublimity of the countryside, the collection tells the story of love and longing, set in the sleepy, slow town of Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya in Northeast. Visions of sublime countryside, ochré scenery of autumn, clear skies and slowing down of life to enjoy it, the ensembles blending in the backdrop, featured all the earthiness of the rural ambience.

For her Autumn/Winter 2021 look, Rina reflects the picturesque, sober, solemn mood in unusual color mix, an overlay of masculine and feminine shapes – free flowing, oversized jackets and sheer dresses with techniques like - broken fauna embroideries, appliqué, Shibori and block prints. Punctuated in earthy color tones with an unusual mix, on woven merino checks and stripes, hand woven tussar silk and diaphanous organzas from Eka's archives. Her statement making silhouettes remained free and fluid, while gentle layering played a prominent role in unveiling creations of great beauty.

Embellishments appeared in a discreet, restrained manner as Shibori gave striking character to the fabrics and 3D appliqués enhanced the visual beauty of the garments. Hand blocked printing was dappled with minute Kantha detailing to further add to the beauty of the collection.

Sheer sleeves and texturing enhanced the delicate nature of the collection. The white self-striped dress, fluid voluminous creations, emphasis on stitch detailing for hemline and sleeves, were some of the interesting points to watch out for.

Easy, relaxed, fluid jackets were ideal for men, along with a few quilted coats, while checks made a brief appearance for the silhouettes. When one looks for slow, elegant, timeless, fashion, Rina Singh’s ‘Eka’ label’s “Shillong” collection for the coming season will be an haute seller.

Commenting on the latest showcase, Rina Singh said, “I showcased my autumn/winter 21 collection titled - Shillong at the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week platform after a hiatus of two seasons: I wanted to present this collection to a larger bigger audience and bring in more visibility. We shot in Shillong against the backdrop of mountains and sheer nothingness… it makes the diaphanous organza, the heavy structured wool and silk layers - render beautifully in the magnanimity of the Himalayas. the expression of fashion is something that I have learnt and will cherish for many collections to come. I am very excited to have been a part of this edition of FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week, the new format and collaboration brings bigger and better opportunities for all of us across boundaries.”
