National, March 20, 2021: The Fashion Design Council of India and Lakme Fashion Week’s joint phygital, seasonless fashion week, slated from March 16-21, 2021 saw Nitin Bal Chauhan showcase his collection titled “Faux-Amis/false friends”.
About the collection:
As we strive to create technology that bridges the gap between the physical and virtual world, we struggle to cope-up with differentiating our feelings in such interactions. The film depicts an episode that happens at a virtual birthday party.
We have meticulously created our signature 3D embroidery by combining conventional materials and turning them into architectural shapes and forms that rise above the body. Are these forms ruins from a past civilization that lie scattered on every torso or are these structures rising from the body depicting the dawn of the artificial intelligence age?
New-age fabrics that are fluid, sheer and reflect metallic colours have been used to create gowns for modern Indian women. We also debut our formal menswear made with the finest Italian suiting fabrics with sharp cuts and immaculate tailoring. The collection will retail from our flagship store at Mehrauli.
Titled “Faux-Amis” (fake friend) it is a line inspired by the dark-side of social media. “Being born in an interesting time like today, a whole lot of us stand witness to a tremendous shift that we as a race have gone through. I grew up in a time without internet, when spending time with a friend meant flying paper planes and kites together. As adults we are living in a world where Alexa dims the lights, plays the music and sets the mood for the evening,” says Chauhan.
